Online giving keeps pace with e-commerce

publication date: May 2, 2012
The Convio Online Marketing Nonprofit Index Study demonstrates that our addiction to convenience has migrated from online shopping to online giving.  In 2011, online fundraising grew at 16% compared to 15% for e-commerce.  This is good news for charities since it shows that donors are increasingly comfortable with giving online.

Joanne Fritz on About.com details other noteworthy statistics from the study:
  • Online giving is still growing, although not as rapidly as it did in 2010.
  • Online fundraising really shines in the acquisition of new donors, with first time online gifts representing 37% of the total median online revenue.
  • Small organizations increased their online giving more than larger charities.
  • Sustainer or recurring online giving grew significantly, with an increase of 38.7%.
